内容記述 | The present research examined the differences between primary and secondary rehearsal from the viewpoint of retrieval time in the recall and recognition tasks. The secondary rehearsal (elaborative rehearsal) group was instructed to rehearse the stimulus-response paired associate materials meaningfully and associatively, while the primary rehearsal (maintenance rehearsal) group simply repeated them. The results were as follows : (a) In the recall task the secondary rehearsal showed a shorter retrieval time than the primary rehearsal. The repetitive presentation group showed a shorter retrieval time than the single presentation groups. (b) In the recognition task a difference of retrieval time between the two rehearsal groups was not found. And a difference of retrieval time between the repetitive presentation and the single ones was not found. (c) The secondary rehearsal group showed significantly more recall and recognition, and also higher d' scores on recognition than the primary rehearsal group. The repetitive presentation produced more recall and recognition than single presentation. These results were interpreted to mean that a more elaborative rehearsal and repetitive presentation led a faster access of the target items at the first search process of recall than the nonelaborative rehearsal and single presentation did, and, moreover, produced the higher discriminative effects at the decision process of recall and recognition. | |||||
